Support for scaling up infant and young child feeding

The Alive & Thrive team is available to assist countries and programs in scaling up infant and young child feeding. We welcome the opportunity to share what is needed to successfully deliver nutrition interventions at scale.

Alive & Thrive’s proven framework for  scaling up infant and young child feeding can be adapted to a variety of settings. The comprehensive framework consists of four components: advocacy, interpersonal communication and community mobilization, mass communication, and strategic use of data. Learn more about the framework.

Our global staff  offers the following support:

  • Advocacy. Advice and technical input on advocacy to improve legislation and increase resources for infant feeding as well as assistance in developing advocacy materials.
  • Interpersonal communication and community mobilization. Technical guidance on developing and implementing interpersonal communication and community mobilization strategies. Support includes identifying priority behaviors, improving frontline worker performance, securing commitments from community leaders, and creating effective communication materials.
  • Mass communication. Assistance in developing comprehensive mass communication campaigns including broadcast radio and TV, out-of home (e.g., billboards, posters, ads on buses, and neighborhood loudspeakers), and digital media.
  • Strategic use of data. Technical guidance on using data throughout the entire program cycle to make decisions about program design, shape advocacy messages, and improve program implementation and management.
